What’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Iowa? Davenport! Why? It scored 100 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index, one of three cities in Iowa to do so. Home values average $170,000 per property, the second lowest in the state. Rents average $862 a month, also the second lowest. The cost of living is 82.9% of the national average, which falls in the middle for Iowa. The average income is $66,000 annually, which also falls in the middle. Median incomes average $47,000 annually, which also falls in the middle.

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Iowa? Cedar Rapids! Why? It also has an HRC MEI score of 100. Home values average $188,000 per property – the third lowest in Iowa. Rent averages $1,144 per 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. That’s the third highest for the state. The cost of living is 81.8% of the national average – the third lowest. The average income is $66,00 a year, the third highest. Median income is $51,000 a year, also the third highest.
