What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Louisiana

What’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Louisiana? New Orleans! Why? New Orleans scores 100 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index. Home values average $263,000 per property, the second highest in Louisiana. Rent averages $1,685 a month for a 2-bedroom/2-bathroom apartment. This is the second highest in Louisiana, too. The cost of living is 101.6% of the national average, the second highest in Louisiana. The average income is $74,000 a year – the highest in Louisiana. Median income is $51,000 a year, the third highest in Louisiana.

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Louisiana? Shreveport! Why? HRC gives it a 77 on its MEI, the second highest in Louisiana. Home values average $130,000 per property, the lowest for Louisiana. Rent averages $1,082 a month, also the lowest for Louisiana. The cost of living is 76.6% of the national average, again the lowest in Louisiana. The average income is $57,00 annually, which is toward the bottom. The median income is $41,000, which falls in the middle for Louisiana.

Note that there’s a one-point difference between New Orleans and Shreveport, after which all other cities in Louisiana have super-low HRC MEI rankings.

Some great things about Shreveport are on the Red River, where Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas converge,  Shrevepride.com has a host of helpful resources for the community,  Field Day is in early April,  Q Prom is at the end of June,  Quest Music & Arts Festival is held in October, and Oh, Shreveport may be the home of Big Foot.

Congratulations, New Orleans and Shreveport!
