What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Kentucky? 

What’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Kentucky? Lousiville! Why? Lousiville scores 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Home values average $236,000 per property, slightly above average for the state. Rent averages $1,347 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. This is also slightly above average. The cost of living is 89.8% of the national average and the second highest in Kentucky. The average income is $67,000 a year, and the median income is $51,000 yearly, the third highest in Kentucky.

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Kentucky? Covington! Why? Covington scores a 100 on HRC’s MEI. The home values average $186,000 per property. This is the second lowest for Kentucky. Rent averages $1,475 a month, which is the highest for the state. The cost of living is 89.3%, the third highest for Kentucky. The average income is $75,000 a year, and the median income is $57,000 a year; both are the highest in the state.

Some good things about Covington are in 2003; it became an inclusive pioneer when it first passed a Human Rights Ordinance that added sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes against discrimination. Covington has easy access to Cincinnati, a nice little gay scene.  Although Covington’s not in the center of Cincinnati, it does have a small contingency of gay bars and shops. Covington’s Pride is typically the 1st weekend in June every year.
