What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Kansas

What’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Kansas? Lawrence! Why? Lawrence scores 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Home values average $296,000 per property, the third highest for the state. Rent averages $1,261 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. This is also the third highest. The cost of living is 93% of the national average and the third highest in Kansas. The average income is $62,000 yearly, and the median income is $49,000 annually.

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Kansas? Wichita! Why? Wichita scores a 100 on HRC’s MEI. The home values average $286,000 per property. Rent averages $1,047 a month. The cost of living is 82.8%, the third lowest in Kansas. The average income is $59,000 yearly, and the median income is $45,000 yearly.

Some good things about Witchita are that in 2021, they adopted the strongest Non-Discrimination Ordinance in Kansas, protecting sexual orientation and gender identity within city limits. Remember that LGBTQ+ friendliness is relative, and Wichita is in the Bible Belt. The Delano District is the most hip and LGBTQ+ welcoming in Wichita. There’s also the Douglas Design District and Old Town. Pride is typically at the end of June, with celebratory events throughout June.

Congratulations, Lawrence and Wichita!
