What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in New Jersey? Let’s find out.

Which city is the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in New Jersey? Montclair! Why? Montclair scores 100 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index. It’s one of five cities in New Jersey to do so. Home values average $876,000 per property, the highest in the state. Rents average $2,704 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. This is toward the bottom half for New Jersey. The cost of living in New Montclair is 194.3%, which is on the high side for New Jersey – only one city in New Jersey has the cost of living under 100%. That’s Trenton at 98.5%. Average incomes are $99,000 yearly, and median incomes are $70,000 annually.

Which city is the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in  New Jersey? Jersey City! Why? Jersey City also scored a 100 on HRC’s MEI. Home values are $540,000, which is toward the top half for New Jersey. Rents average $2,896 a month, which is near the bottom for New Jersey. The cost of living in Jersey City is 191.2%, on the high side. The average income is $99,000 yearly, and the median income is $70,000 yearly. All incomes this week per US Census include Montclair in NYC metro. Seven of the 11 cities ranked came from New York City metro area.

What are some great things about Jersey City? Jersey City is the second largest city behind Newark. It’s super close to New York City. It’s the actual home of The Statue of Liberty and was once listed as “one of the queerest cities in America,” per Advocate. Jersey City is only about an hour from the beach and the Atlantic Ocean, including Seaside Heights, Asbury Park, and the Jersey Shore. Pride with Your Pup – actual dogs is August 6, 2023, and the 22nd annual Pride is August 26, 2023.
