What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Deleware

Today, we’re sharing the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Deleware. Unfortunately, Delaware comes up a little short. No city has 100 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equity Index. Per the CDC and Williams Institute, 7.5% of adults identify as LGBTQ+ in the state of Delaware. This is the 4th highest in the US by percentage, but that means there is roughly 56, 600 LGBTQ+ adults living in Deleware. What’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Deleware? Dover – Delaware’s capital. Why? Dover scored 64 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index. The home values average $305,000 per property, the second lowest for Deleware. Rent averages $1,634 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment, which is the state’s lowest. The cost of living is 99%, which is the lowest for Deleware. The average income is $52,000 yearly, which is the lowest in the state. Meanwhile, the median income is $44,000 a year, which is also the lowest in the state annually. 

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Deleware? Wilmington Why? Wilmington scores an 80 on the HRC MEI. The home values average $296,000 per property. Rent averages $1,650 a month. The cost of living is 104.1%. The average income is $85,000 a year and the median income is $64,000 a year.

Some good things about Wilmington, Deleware is the gay place to be is Crimson Moon Video Bar and Dance Club. You can find more information on movoto.com which once listed Wilmignton as one of the 4 best towns in Deleware. Our Night Out is a social LGBTQ+ group that meets in mid-June to celebrate pride. The group also meets regularly throughout the year. You can find more information on their FaceBook group. Dover or Philidelphia is also where people go to celebrate pride.

An honorable mention is Rehoboth Beach. Rehoboth Beach scores 61 on the HRC MEI. Their home values are the second highest in Deleware. Rents are in the middle. They also have the highest average and median incomes.
