Hawaii County/Island scored 52 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index, which is the the lowest of three in the state. The home values average $544,000 per property, the lowest for Hawaii. Rent averages $2,128 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment, which is the lowest for the state. The cost of living is 131.9%, the lowest for Hawaii. The average income is $72,000 yearly, which is the highest in Hawaii. Meanwhile, the median income is $49,000 a year, the lowest in the state annually.
What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Hawaii? Honolulu County/Island. Why? Honolulu County/Island scores a 89 on HRC’s MEI, the highest in the Hawaii. The home values average $854,000 per property, the middle for Hawaii with the highest being in Maui. Rent averages $2,670 a month, which is the middle for the state. The cost of living is 171.5%, which is the highest in Hawaii. The average income is $70,000 a year, which is the middle for the state of Hawaii. Meanwhile, the median income is $57,000 a year, the highest in the state.
