What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Nevada? Let’s find out.

The runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Nevada is Las Vegas! Why? It’s one of four cities in Nevada to get 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Three of the cities are in the Las Vegas metro area. Home values average $399,000 per property, and rents average $1,793 monthly for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment.  The cost of living is 110.5%. In fact, all cities we analyzed in Nevada are over 100% for the cost of living. The average income is $66,000 yearly, and the median income is $49,000 annually. From our personal experience of living in Las Vegas, we can share that a lot of development is taking place on the north side, north Vegas. Unfortunately, this is an area that does very poor on HRC MEI and with rents coming in at 63 and $1,825 a money, respectively.

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Nevada? Reno! Why? It also scored a 100 on the HRC MEI. Home values average $522,000 per property, making it the most expensive average in Nevada. Rents are $1,874 a month, which is the second highest. The cost of living comes in at 117.5%. The average income is $74,000 annually, and the median income is $52,000 annually. Sparks a suburb of Reno, NV, did very poorly on HRC MEI at 58. So, the burbs are maybe places to avoid. What are some great things about Reno? Reno is known as the “Biggest Little City in the World” and has a mini Vegas Strip vibe. There’s a low-vibe queer scene combining culture, gambling, and some queer nightlife. In 1999, Reno elected its first openly LGBTQ person to the Nevada State Legislature, Senator David Parks Reno’s about an hour from Lake Tahoe, which is plentiful with hiking, fishing, rafting, and golfing, while skiing is popular during the winter – all the outdoor stuff one might want.
