What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Nebraska? Let’s find out.

There aren’t many big disparities among the cities in Nebraska that we analyzed. They’re all very close in the numbers we pulled, except that Kearny is an outlier on the high side for rents and cost of living. Unfortunately, no city scored a 100% on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Where’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Nebraska? Omaha! Why? Omaha scored an 85 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Home values average $273,000 per property—rents average $1,292 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. The cost of living in Omaha is 92.9% The average income is $73,000 a year, and the median income is $55,000 a year.

Where’s the winner in Nebraska for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city? Lincoln! Why? Lincoln scored a 92 on HRC’s MEI. Home values average $270,000 per property—rents average $1,233 a month. The cost of living is 92.7%. The average income is $62,000 a year, and the median income is $50,000 a year.

What are some great things about Lincoln, Nebraska? Lincoln was originally called Lancaster, after Lancaster, PA, and became Lincoln in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. There are a lot of arts in Nebraska, with the annual Lincoln Arts Festival, the Sheldon Museum of Art, and the Lied Center for the Performing Arts. Lincoln’s the home of the Sunken Gardens and Pioneer State Park for nature lovers. There’s an offbeat and deeply engaged LGBTQ+ community, per Queer in the World. Outlinc is a large LGBTQ+ organization that hosts events throughout the year. The LGBTQ Center supports the local LGBTQ+ community. Lincoln’s annual Pride Fest is typically the second to last weekend in July.
