What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Missouri? Let’s find out.

Did you know that more than half of Missouri’s population lives between Kansas City and St. Louis?

Where’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Missouri? Columbia! Why? Columbia scored a 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Home values average $262,000 per property—rents average $1,082 monthly, which is toward the lower end, probably because it is a college town. The cost of living in Omaha is 90.3%. The average income is $67,000 yearly,  which is the second highest. The median income is $51,000 yearly, which is the second highest.

Where’s the winner in Missouri for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city? St. Louis! Why? St. Louis scored a 100 on HRC’s MEI. Home values average $1600,000 per property—rents average $1,208 monthly. The cost of living is 87.7%. The average income is $63,000 yearly, and the median income is $51,000 yearly.

Why was Kansas City not our number-one pick? Kansas City did score 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. However, the home values and rents were toward the top, and the median income was average in the middle, making Kansas City not as affordable as the top two mentioned.

What are some great things about St. Louis, Missouri? Author Gregory Kompes named St. Louis one of the “50 Fabulous Gay-Friendly Places to Live”. It has some of the most Queer-friendly neighbors, which include Central West End, Grand South Central, and the historic Soulard District. St. Louis is home to a museum, a botanical garden, and the famous Arch. St. Louis’ annual Pride is typically the last weekend in June.

Congratulations, Columbia & St. Louis!
