What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Mississippi? Let’s find out.

Mississippi, unfortunately, is the least LGBTQ+ friendly state in our analysis so far. A single city did not get a 100 in the HRC MEI index. Mississippi has some work to do here, but we do have some cities that we pulled out to share with you.

Where’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Mississippi? Hattiesburg! Why? Hattiesburg scored a 38 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index. Home values average $200,000 even per property and rents average $1,255 per month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. The cost of living in Omaha is 87.3%. The average income is $50,000 yearly, and the median income is $33,000 annually.

Where’s the winner in Mississippi for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city? Jackson! Why? Jackson scored the highest of all the cities with a 71 on HRC’s MEI, which is the lowest high in our analysis so far. Previously, Laramie scored a 77 on HRC MEI on episode 383.

Home values average $67,000 per property, which is the lowest in all the cities that we have analyzed so far. Rents average $1,131 monthly for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment. This is the second lowest in the state of Mississippi. The cost of living is 83.6%, which is also the lowest for the state. The average income is $42,000 yearly, which is the lowest of all cities we have analyzed so far. The median income is $32,000 yearly, again the lowest in our analysis.

What are some great things about Jackson, Mississippi? Fortunately, they have a PFLAG organization in Jackson, Mississippi. Their Pride is 10/06 & 10/07 this year. We found an Interesting article on Out that featured the Wunderlust bar as ‘The Queer Oasis of Jackson, Mississippi’s Lone Gay Bar’ in 2018, but it’s since closed, and it looks as though there are no LGBTQ+ bars or clubs in Jackson or near the area.

Congratulations, Hattiesburg and Jackson!
