What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Colorado

Today, we’re sharing the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Colorado. What’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Colorado? It was a tie between Fort Collins and Boulder.  Why Fort Collins? Fort Collins, Colorado scored 100 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index. The home values average $558,000 per property, the third lowest for Colorado. Rent averages $1,961 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment, which is the third lowest for the state average. The cost of living is 115.7%, the second lowest for Colorado. The average income is $75,000 yearly, which is the third lowest in the state. Meanwhile, the median income is $56,000 a year, which is also the third lowest in the state annually. 

Why did Fort Collins tie with Bolder? Bolder, Colorado also scored 100 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index. The home values average $991,000 per property, the second highest for Colorado. Rent averages $2,449 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment, which is the second highest for the state average. The cost of living is 141.3%, the second highest for Colorado. The average income is $111,000 yearly, which is the highest in the state. Meanwhile, the median income is $77,000 a year, which is also the highest in the state annually. Colorado is one of the few Blue Zones in the US per Dan Buettner and the Blue Zones Study. The average rent in Aspen Colorado is $28, 450 a month and it goes up to $34,000 a month during ski season.

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Colorado? Denver. Why? Denver, Colorado scores 100 on the HRC MEI. The home values average $563,000 per property, which is in the middle for Colorado. Rent averages $2,075 a month, which is the third highest in Colorado. The cost of living is 127.6%, which is in the middle for Colorado. The average income is $89,000 a year, the third highest in the state. The median income is $67,000 a year, both being the second highest in Colorado.

Some good things about Denver, Colorado are that if you wake early enough, you can ride fresh powder trails in the mountains and be back in Denver in time to hit the drag show at Tracks. By our last count, there were about 16 gay/LGBTQ+ bars from holes in the walls to lesbian coffee shops to dance clubs with shirtless boys and techno lights. Denver is home of the first openly gay man and the first U.S. governor in a same-sex marriage to be reelected. From Union Station to the Denver Art Museum to the Botanic Gardens to First Friday Art Walks, it’s safe to hold your partner’s hand – we’ve done it. Denver’s Pride is in June and usually hosts over 500K over a 2-day weekend. Colorado checks all the right boxes on Equaldex.com.
