Queer women talking about lesbian money issues
We know that the LGBTQ+ community faces unique financial challenges. But we are also cognizant of the fact that each subgroup within the queer population deals with its own specific set of money issues.
And over the years, we’ve gotten questions from listeners specific to lesbian money. So, who better to field those questions than a panel of successful queer women who are experts in the fields of finance and psychology?
Jenni Dazols is a financial planner and founder of Modern Family Finance, a firm that helps LGBTQ+ households achieve financial freedom. Dr. Angela Koivula is the licensed clinical psychologist behind Affirmative Counseling and Psychological Services, a mental health practice that caters to the queer population. And Dr. Jennelle is a trained psychologist and relationship advisor who specializes in working with the LGBTQ+ community, specifically women who were previously in relationships with men and are now with women.
On this episode of Queer Money, Jenni, Angela and Jennelle join us to explore the financial challenges unique to queer women, explaining why so many lesbians carry a fear of combining finances with a partner and what additional expenses they incur in forming blended families.
Our panelists discuss why women, in general, see money in a negative light (and what we can do to change that) and describe how feeling undeserving leads to financial anxiety in marginalized populations.
Listen in for Jenni, Angela and Jennelle’s insight on the benefit of being transparent about money and learn how lesbians navigate a world that was not designed for a woman’s financial independence.
