What’s the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly City in Alaska

Today, we’re sharing the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Alaska. What’s the runner-up for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Alaska? Anchorage. Why? Anchorage scored 83 on the Human Rights Campaigns Municipal Equality Index. The home values average $376,000 per property, the third lowest in Alaska. Rent averages $1,460 a month for a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment, which is the second highest for the state. The cost of living is 115.5%, the second highest for the state. The average income is $78,000 yearly, the highest, and the median income is $61,000 a year, the second highest in Alaska.

What’s the winner for the most affordable, LGBTQ+ friendly city in Alaska? Juneau Why? Juneau is the only city to score 100 on the HRC MEI. The home values average $459,000 per property, the second highest in the state. Rent averages $1,300 a month, which is the middle for the state. The cost of living is 113%, the third highest for Alaska. The average income is $74,000 a year, which is the second highest for the state. The median income is $61,000 a year, the highest for Alaska.

Some good things about Juneau, Alaska are that the capital city in 2016, adopted an anti-discrimination ordinance that protects individuals based on sexual orientation and gender expression. It is home to the Southeast Alaska Gay & Lesbian (LGBTQ+) Alliance, SEAGLA. You can check them out at akseagla.org. They have an Alaska Pride Film Festival. The Juneau Pride Center hosts all sorts of Pride events, just not a parade. They include June Pride Ride, Pride Pub Crawl,  Pride Hike, Pride Prom, Pride Picnic, and an Ice Cream Social. The closest Prides are in Anchorage and Fairbanks both held in June every year. They have gayborhoods in Downtown, Valley and Douglas. There is support offered from Identity Alaska, which you can check out at identityalaska.org, and Trans Families, which supports Alaska, and you can check them out at transfamilies.org.
