How can LGBTQ+ students afford out-of-state college tuition

At present, there are 409 anti-LGBTQ+ laws advancing through state legislatures in the US. So, it’s no surprise that many queer students are changing their college plans and going to states where they feel welcome and safe. But LGBTQ-friendly states tend to be more expensive and require that students pay out-of-state tuition.

On this episode of Queer Money®, we share 11 tips to help queer students afford out-of-state tuition, explaining what it means to apply for regional reciprocity or tuition exchange programs. We discuss how to become a resident of the state where you want to go to school and encourage LGBTQ+ students to become an RA in exchange for free or reduced-cost campus housing.

Listen in for insight on receiving needs-based aid as an LGBTQ+ student and learn where to apply for scholarships to help cover the cost of your out-of-state tuition.
