On this Queer Money®, we’re sharing the most affordable, LGBTQ+-friendly cities in the United States that are climate-ready?  We list the 7 climate change-ready cities that are great spots for LGBTQ+ folks.

Our 7th place spot is Baltimore, Maryland. Rent averages $1,595 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. Baltimore home values average $179,000 per property, the second lowest of our top 7 list. The cost of living is 91.3% of the national average. Every one of these cities that made the top 7 list has a cost of living less than 100% of the national average. Baltimore has a median income of $53,000, the second lowest in the top 7, and an average income of $70,000, the second lowest in our top 7 list. As for climate change readiness, it comes in at #2 in Architectural Digests ranking for being at risk of climate issues due to location. Baltimore comes in the top 25 cities for clean energy and is the only city in the top 7 on a coast.

Coming in at #6 is St. Louis, Missouri. St. Louis’ average rent is $1,208 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, the second lowest in our top 7. The home values in St. Louis average $160,000 per property, the lowest of our top 7 list. The cost of living is 87.7% of the national average, the third lowest of the top 7. St. Louis has a median income of $51,000, the lowest in the top 7, and an average income of $63,000, the lowest in our top 7 list. As for climate change readiness, it comes in the top 25 on the Architectural Digests ranking for climate readiness and clean energy. 

Coming in at #5 is Columbus, Ohio. Columbus has an average rent of $1,421 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. The home values in Columbus have an average of $284,000 per property. The cost of living is 95.2% of the national average, the highest of the top 7. Columbus, Ohio, has a median income of $57,000 and an average income of $74,000. As for climate change readiness, it comes in #8 on the Architectural Digests ranking for the best city for climate change resilience and in the top 25 for climate readiness and clean energy.

We are jumping to #3 since we had two tied at #3 on our list. Coming in at #3 is Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland has an average rent of $1,321 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, third lowest in the top 7. The home value in Clevland is $202,000 per property. The cost of living is 77.2% of the national average, the lowest in the top 7. Cleveland, Ohio, has a median income of $53,000, the third lowest in the top 7 list, and an average income of $71,000, the third lowest on our top 7 list. As for climate change readiness, it is the lowest of the top 7 for climate change resiliency.  And the top 25 for climate readiness and clean energy on the Architectural Digests ranking.

Some honorable mentions are Atlanta at #11 – #10 on the Architectural Digest list, Austin at #20 – #7 on the Architectural Digest list, and Denver at #18 – #1 on the Architectural Digest list. 

Cincinnati, Ohio, is our second city at the #3 spot, tied with Clevland, Ohio. No, we are not trying to sell you on Ohio. Numbers are what they are, but many cities in, near,  and around the Great Lakes did very well on this list.  Cincinnati, Ohio, has an average rent of $1,463 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. The home value in Cincinnati is $251,000 per property. The cost of living is 91.5% of the national average. Cincinnati has a median income of $57,000 and an average income of $75,000, the third highest on our top 7 list. As for climate change readiness, it is the third highest of the top 7 for climate change resiliency.  And the ninth city for climate readiness in preparing residents for climate change issues on the Architectural Digests ranking.

Coming in at #2 is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh has an average rent of $1,333 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. The home value in Pittsburgh is $193,000 per property. The cost of living is 94.7% of the national average, the second highest on our top 7 list. Pittsburgugh has a median income of $57,000, the second highest on our top 7 list, and an average income of $76,000, the highest on our top 7 list. As for climate change readiness, it is the second lowest of the top 7 for climate change resiliency.  And in the top 25 for climate readiness and clean energy on the Architectural Digests ranking.

The winner for our #1 spot is Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Milwaukee has an average rent of $1,193 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, the lowest on our top 7 list. The home value in Milwaukee is $288,000 per property, the highest on our top 7 list. The cost of living is 84.7% of the national average, the second lowest on our top 7 list. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has a median income of $57,000, the highest on our top 7 list, and an average income of $76,000, the second highest on our top 7 list. As for climate change readiness, it is the highest of the top 7 for climate change resiliency.  It is in the top 20 for climate risk and in the top 10 for climate readiness in preparing for climate change issues on the Architectural Digests ranking.
