On this Queer Money®, we’re sharing the top 7 most affordable, LGBTQ+-friendly cities for queer couples on our affordable, LGBTQ+-friendly city series.

Coming in at #7 is Dallas, Texas. Dallas, Texas’ average rent is $1,789 per month for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment. Dallas home values are $361,000 per property. Its cost of living is 101.4%. Dallas has a median income of $55,000 annually, the second lowest on our list of 7. Dallas has an average income of $76,000 annually. Dallas, Texas, has 1.2% of same-sex households, which is the second lowest on our top 7 list of cities. 

Coming in at #6 is Denver, Colorado. Denver, Colorado’s average rent is $2,075, the second highest on our top 7 list. Colorado’s average home values are the highest on our list at $563,000. The cost of living is 127.6%, making Colorado the highest on our list again. The median income is $67,000, the second lowest on our list. Colorado’s average income is $89,000, making it the second highest on our list. Colorado has 1.8% of same-sex couples, making this the second-highest city on our list of top 7.

Coming in at #5 is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s average rent is $1,773 a month for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment. Home values in Pennsylvania are, on average, $322,000. The cost of living is 107.4%. The median income for Pennsylvania is $64,000, while the average income is $85,000. Pennsylvania has 0.9% same-sex couples, making it the lowest on our list.

Coming in at #4 is San Antonio, Texas. San Antoni’s rent average for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment is $1,478 per month. This is the second lowest on our list. The home values in San Antonio average $287,000, the second lowest on our list. The cost of living is at 89.8% for San Antonio, making it the second lowest on our list and one that falls below the national average. The median income is $50,000, and the average income is $65,000. Both are the lowest in our list of top 7. 0.95% of the couples in San Antonio, Texas, have same-sex relationships. 

Coming in at #3 is Chicago, Illinois. Chicago has an average rent of $2,077 a month for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, which is the highest on our top 7 list. Home values for Chicago average $291,000. The cost of living is 105.7%. Chicago has a median income of $62,000 and an average income of $87,000. It has 1.2% same-sex couples.

Coming in at #2 is Columbus, Ohio. Columbus has an average rent of $1,421 a month for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment, the lowest on our top 7 list. The home values average $284,000. The cost of living is 95.2%, the second lowest on our list and one that falls below the national average. The median income is $57,000. The average income is $74,000, the second lowest on our list of top 7. Columbus has 1.35% same-sex couples.

And coming in at the top of our list at #1 is Washington, DC. Washington’s average rent is $2,063 a month for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment. The average home value for Washington average value is $456,000. The cost of living is 118.3%. Washington’s median income is the highest on our list at $94,000. Washington also has the highest average income of $119,000. 2.85% of the people living in Washington DC are same sex, the highest on our top 7 list.
